Ealing Council has approved a proposal for West Ealing library to become one of seven community managed libraries across the borough.
With yet more cuts to services on the way, one of these is about the local community taking over the day-to-day running of seven libraries. The Council’s plan is to replace the existing paid staff with volunteers who will be supported by the remaining professional library staff. The Council is looking for local community groups to come forward with costed plans as to how they will run the libraries whilst ensuring they deliver the Council’s contractual requirements such as a set number of opening hours each week and participating in key national library events. The Council is also looking for what additional community activities these groups can offer as part of their bid to run one of these libraries.
More details about this will be issued later this month and the Council hopes to have some of these community managed libraries operating within the next financial year.
