    • Cyclists Death at Lido Junction Still Unexplained
On 19 October 2017 Claudia Manera died of injuries incurred in an accident on 12 October 2017 at the Lido Junction in West Ealing. No explanation of her death has emerged. She apparently collided with a lorry. The lorry driver stopped at the accident scene, was interviewed by the Police, and was not arrested. On Saturday 28 October 2017, Ealing Cycling Campaign (www.ealing-cycling.org.uk) is marching from Ealing Town Hall to the Lido Junction ‘to call on TfL and Ealing Council to take action to make the road safe for all’. The timing and destination of the protest march suggests that the organisers think that no fault applies to the cyclist who tragically died. The organisers might be wrong about this. No-one at the accident scene or the Police have even suggested who was to blame for the accident. Ealing Council has over the last years spent £10,000s on creating dedicated cycle lanes. Some of these exist on the Uxbridge Road at Ealing Common, on Ruislip Road East and on Little Ealing Lane. I am not the only one that thinks that cycling on the Uxbridge Road through Ealing is dangerous. I have also seen some reckless and law breaking actions by cyclists on that road. I accept that not all cyclists are irresponsible but clearly a few of them are. What do others think? Eric Leach
